2025 NFL preseason: What's going on in the NFC East?

We are two weeks into the 2025 NFL preseason. Week 2 concludes on Monday night when the Washington Commanders host the Cincinnati Bengals. Washington looks to avoid a 0-2 start to the preseason, and quarterback Jayden Daniels will play a series or two against the Bengals.

What about the rest of the NFC East this preseason?

How about a quick look at the NFC East during this 2025 preseason:

Philadelphia Eagles

  • The Eagles picked up another receiver for quarterback Jalen Hurts. The Eagles traded for former Alabama WR John Metchie, reuniting him with WR DeVonta Smith. Will the trade mean that former Washington Commanders receiver Jahan Dotson has to fight to keep his spot in the rotation of Eagles' receivers?
  • The Eagles may have the most depth at linebacker in the league. Zach Baun turned out to be perhaps the best defensive acquisition in 2024 in the league, while Saquon Barkley was the best offensive acquisition, both by the Eagles. Nakobe Dean and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. return, but what about Jihaad Campbell still being there for the Eagles' last selection of the first round? If that is not enough, Smael Mondon contributed five solo tackles vs the Browns.

Washington Commanders

  • Jayden Daniels will see his first preseason action, Monday against the Bengals. Head coach Dan Quinn determined last week not to play 30 players in the preseason opener, including the 2024 offensive rookie of the year, Daniels.
  • Terry McLaurin and the Commanders have not come to a contract extension agreement. However, McLaurin is ending his "hold in," has been removed from the PUP list, and will return to this week's practices.

New York Giants

  • The talk of the Giants drafting quarterback Jaxson Dart too soon is probably history. Dart not only made nice plays in the preseason opener, but in this week's win over the NY Jets, Dart was impressive, completing 14 of 16 passing attempts for 137 yards and a passer rating of 123.2. Look for Russell Wilson to be the opening week starter vs Washington. But might the Giants now be willing to trade Jameis Winston to pick up some value and elevate Dart to their second quarterback?
  • Giants' fifth-round 2025 draft selection Marcus Mbow has impressed in both outings. Looks like he will be on the team this year and could play and contribute soon if given the opportunity.

Dallas Cowboys

  • Commanders fans will remember former Washington G/T Saahdiq Charles. Charles hyper-extended a knee vs. the Rams and was unable to practice or play this week against the Ravens. He is not guaranteed a roster spot and, as a result, may struggle to be included in the opening week 53-man roster.
  • Meanwhile, there apparently have still been no contract negotiations between the Cowboys and Micah Parsons. Is it really possible that owner Jerry Jones was waiting until the Netflix debut of "America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys”, the story of the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones’ impact on NFL history? Jones also had this jewel: "Michael Parson is as savvy and knowledgeable in understanding of his financial business relative to football, as any player I have ever been around."
