HERMANTOWN — The Lumberjack batters got to work quickly on Thursday afternoon.
The Bemidji High School baseball team scored four runs through the first two innings to secure a 5-3 road win over Hermantown.
Gunner Ganske cracked a double in the top of the first inning to send Stonewall Gesnner home and take a 1-0 lead over the Hawks. Hermantown responded with two runs in the bottom of the first for a 2-1 advantage.
However, Bemidji went right back to work in the second inning. Jack Lundquist hit a ground ball single to the shortstop and Brailen Lussier reached home on an error to knot things up at 2-2.
In the very next at-bat, Lawson Berg managed to steal home plate and Lundquist advanced to third. Gessner sent Lundquist home with a single to right field, handing Bemidji a 4-2 lead.
Hermantown chipped away at the Lumberjacks’ lead with a run in the third inning, but BHS tacked on another run in the sixth and hung on down the stretch for the win.
Starting pitcher Kobe Brown came away with the win on the mound for the Jacks, tossing all seven innings while allowing just three runs. He collected five strikeouts and issued three walks.
