4x NBA All-Star Sends NSFW Message to New York Knicks Fans originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The New York Knicks lost to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals, and some have suggested that they got exactly what they deserved, going 1-2 in the series at Madison Square Garden.
Before the series even started, Knicks fans were caught on video harassing and abusing a man wearing a Tyrese Haliburton jersey.
While trash talk and even unfriendly jeers are a part of the game, fans took it too far, and DeMarcus Cousins did not hold back when criticizing them.
“I’m happy for you guys’ success, but it’s crazy,” said Cousins. “Like you find this success and now quickly you, you’re now, you know, finding blame. You turn in the a**holes in the moment.”
Couins went on to say that fans should appreciate the season that the team had and the culture they built, which is a fair assessment, although they were favorites in the series against the Pacers, and some fan anger is to be expected.
Of course, the irony of Cousins calling Knicks fans “a**holes” is not to be ignored; he was in the top five in technical fouls five different times during his NBA career.
Between Spike Lee on the sidelines and the “bing bong” fans in the streets and nosebleeds, Knicks fans have always been some of the rowdiest in the NBA, despite not having a whole lot to celebrate in living memory.
It’s unclear if New York will run things back with the same roster, although expectations will be sky-high entering the season.
