Former MSU football QB transfers to blue blood program

A former Michigan State quarterback has finally found his new home through the transfer portal.

Former Spartan and top-rated transfer portal quarterback Sam Leavitt will reportedly commit to LSU as Lane Kiffin’s next signal caller. On3 and 247Sports were two of the first outlets to report on the notable transfer portal news for Leavitt.

Leavitt started his career at Michigan State as a four-star prospect out of high school. He played for the Spartans during the 2023 season but hit the transfer portal once Jonathan Smith was hired as the next Michigan State head coach.

In 2024, Leavitt led the Sun Devils to a Big 12 championship and appearance in the College Football Playoff. He entered this season as one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy but he battle injuries throughout the year, ultimately playing in only seven games.

Leavitt has been one of the most coveted players in the portal this cycle, with visits to LSU, Kentucky, Tennessee and Miami (FL) this past week. Ultimately, it appears the Tigers were the big winner for his commitment.
