The Pittsburgh Steelers have wasted no time in amping up their search for a new head coach. On Saturday, news came out via ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter that a ninth name has been added to the pool of candidates in the form of former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy.
McCarthy has ties to the Pittsburgh area and has been a name fans have wanted in the past as a replacement for Mike Tomlin. McCarthy also have a history with Steelers General Manager Omar Khan.

In terms of Steelers candidates, none can match the experience McCarthy has.
From 2006-2018, McCarthy was the head coach of the Green Bay Packers. McCarthy helped the Packers beat the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV. From 2020-2024, McCarthy was the head coach of the Cowboys. For his career, McCarthy has a 185-123-2 career record, including the postseason. As a sidenote, McCarthy was Aaron Rodger’s head coach during his time with the Packers and hiring McCarthy could impact Rodgers’ future with the team.
