Mike McDaniel was a candidate for the Eagles’ offensive coordinator job, but could be staying in Southern California after a Tuesday evening interview with the Chargers. Adam Schefter is reporting that McDaniel is nearing a deal to become the Chargers’ offensive coordinator.
Sirianni rightfully gets a lot of credit for the Eagles’ success, which means he’s to blame when things don’t work out, or a specific unit isn’t operating at maximum potential. In 2023, after a late-season meltdown that saw the Eagles go 1-6 in their final seven games, including the playoffs, the head coach and his assistant coaches were placed squarely on the hot seat, with Sirianni the only coach to survive. In came Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio, and a Super Bowl followed in 2024.

Now, according to The Athletic’s Dianni Rusinni, Former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel and former Giants head coach Brian Daboll are at the top of the Eagles’ list of OC Candidates.
Brian Daboll | Former Giants head coach
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (1) talks with New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll after a Thursday Night Football game between the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on Oct. 9, 2025.
Daboll has coached Jalen Hurts before (Alabama), and he landed the Giants’ head coaching position in 2022 after four seasons in Buffalo as the Bills’ offensive coordinator. Daboll has been credited with helping develop MVP quarterback Josh Allen, who struggled with accuracy when drafted out of Wyoming in 2018. In his third season as coordinator, in 2020, Daboll helped the Bills average 31.3 points per game, advance to the AFC Championship Game, and earn assistant coach of the year honors.

If the Eagles want to create a more balanced offense with the run game, McDaniel’s version of the Kyle Shanahan offense could be something to watch if he doesn’t land another head coaching job.
Both coaches made their initial list of top candidates, and most importantly, they are from outside the Eagles and Sirianni’s tree. Daboll is a mentor to the Eagles’ head coach, and McDaniel has been on Howie Roseman’s radar for years now.
