The New England Patriots have plenty of positions to address during free agency: edge, wide receiver, offensive line, linebacker, tight end.

It’s not going to be easy to check all of those boxes, though…

If the club intends on putting itself in a position to regularly contend, it will have to put together another near-flawless offseason — which would include adding someone like Baltimore Ravens tight end Charlie Kolar.

Let’s take a look!

Bio:

Charlie Kolar
Position: TE
Height: 6’ 6″
Weight: 257lbs
2026 Age: 27 (Feb. 10, 1999)
2025: 17 G, 10 REC, 142 REC YDS, 2 TD

The Patriots should sign Charlie Kolar because:

It’s not all about the numbers…

Kolar being the prized offseason addition at tight end wouldn’t knock anyone’s socks off, but don’t let the numbers (or lack thereof) fool you! The Ravens have been rocking an embarrassment of riches at the position over the last several seasons, with Kolar admittedly serving as the third option behind Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely — and though that might sound like a bad thing, it ultimately means that he does all of the dirty work and has consistently contributed on special teams. I wouldn’t be surprised if increased opportunities lead to increased production, either.

The Patriots have been kicking the can down the road at that position for the last several seasons, which you’ve heard plenty about if you’ve read this series, but the fact is they need bring in a short-term replacement for Austin Hooper and a long-term replacement for Hunter Henry.

Kolar would serve as the former, and since his contract isn’t going to break the bank, the organization could then find the latter through either making another free agent addition or by using of their mid-round draft picks. If they want to fix the timeline at the position, there aren’t many better options.

The Patriots should not sign Charlie Kolar because:

We haven’t pulled this card yet, but in all honesty there’s no reason why this young man shouldn’t be one of the primary targets of the offseason…

Best Fits:

1. New England Patriots
2. Washington Commanders
3. Baltimore Ravens

Kolar would literally fit anywhere, which is good for him but bad for teams looking to take advantage of his lack of production.

It’s clear that he’ll thrive under better circumstances, so there will be plenty of teams fighting for his services — inevitably leading to an average annual value that surprises. The Patriots will sign at least one of the many decent options available to them, and would be wise to keep tabs on this one
