Colts’ Alec Pierce on signing new 4-year deal: ‘I think we can be special’

Alec Pierce said last week he had “earned the right to see what’s out there” as the most sought-after free agent wide receiver topped 1,000 yards for the first time, led the NFL in yards per catch for the second year running and over the course of 2025 turned into an all-around receiver a team might be able to build around.

In the end, the Colts front office made Pierce, 25, the highest-paid free agent wide receiver in league history, while giving him a chance to pick up where he and quarterback Daniel Jones left off following Indianapolis’ 8-2 start last season. Pierce signed a four-year deal with the Colts Wednesday worth $116 million, multiple sources confirmed to IndyStar, including $60 million in guaranteed money at signing and $84 million in total guarantees.

He said Monday on the Pat McAfee Show that he and his representation initially believed he’d be the one receiving the Colts’ franchise tag – under the presumption that general manager Chris Ballard would come to terms on a long-term deal with quarterback Daniel Jones ahead of last week’s tag deadline.

“And then things went that way with Daniel, and (they) ended up having to use the tag, and then it was like, ‘Oh, wow, we’re going to be the No. 1 free agent receiver out there, and those opportunities started flooding in,’” said Pierce, whose new four-year deal was leaked just moments into the legal tampering period, though it was believed to have been finalized hours prior. “But I knew where my heart was. I love the city of Indianapolis.

“Just seeing where we were last year earlier in the year, just rolling, I truly believe we were the No. 1 team in the NFL. Then, obviously, we didn’t finish out the season like we should’ve, but I think we can get back to where we were. I believe in Daniel. I think they’re going to get his deal done and lock him down, and I think we can be special.”
