The New England Patriots were one of the first teams to be linked to Maxx Crosby in trade rumors, but did not swing a trade for him.

The Baltimore Ravens reportedly had a deal for Crosby done, and he was set to be a Raven. However, in what has become one of the oddest trade stories in recent memory, the Ravens backed out of the deal. The actual reason for the Ravens’ backing out is unclear, but Crosby is back with the Las Vegas Raiders.

The question is now whether he is back on the trade block. Crosby reportedly told Dianna Russini that he wants to play for Mike Vrabel earlier this offseason. Now that he could be available again, would Eliot Wolf make a run at him, potentially for the second time?

“With Max Crosby specifically? I’d have to talk to (director of research) Richard Miller about our numbers right now,” Wolf told MassLive’s Mark Daniels when asked if the Patriots would revisit trading for Crosby. “So, again, we’ll look into any player that we think can help us.”

Wolf did not say yes, but he also did not say no. There are a couple of obstacles to clear in any trade for Crosby. The first one is whether he is even up for trade. Crosby has noted that he is ready to be a Raider and play for the team after the Ravens deal fell through. The Raiders are publicly saying they will not trade him, but nobody knows what the conversations behind closed doors are.

According to Russini, the Raiders are reportedly maintaining their asking price of two-first round picks in any potential trade for Crosby. That means, even if he is up for trade, the Patriots would have to give up two premium draft picks.
