The St. Louis Blues will be a fascinating team to watch at the 2025 NHL trade deadline. It has been a tough season for the Blues, as they are currently five points behind the Vancouver Canucks for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference.
The Blues have been creating plenty of chatter in the rumor mill as potential sellers, and it is only increasing with the deadline being one week away. In Nick Kypreos’ latest trade board for Sportsnet, the NHL insider listed five Blues as players who could be dealt by March 7: Jordan Binnington, Pavel Buchnevich, Jordan Kyrou, Brayden Schenn, and Colton Parayko.
Binnington is a new name in the rumor mill, and his incredible play at the 4 Nations Face-Off is the reason for it, as Kypreos notes. Contenders looking to improve between the pipes could consider targeting him. In 41 games this season, he has a 17-19-4 record, a .899 save percentage, and a 2.82 goals-against average. He is signed until the end of the 2026-27 season, carrying a $6 million cap hit. He also has an 18-team no-trade list.
Buchnevich could be a popular target for teams looking to add a skilled forward to their top six. He is in the final season of his current contract, where he has a $5.8 million cap hit and a 12-team no-trade list. However, his six-year, $48 million contract extension kicks in next season, and he will have a full no-trade clause starting then. Thus, if the Blues want to move him, now would be the easiest time. In 57 games this season, he has 12 goals, 39 points, and a plus-3 rating.
Kyrou being named a trade candidate is undoubtedly notable, as he is one of the Blues’ top forwards. Thus, trading him would come with risk. Yet, he is in a similar position as Buchnevich. He has zero trade protection this season, so the Blues would be able to move him by the deadline without any potential restrictions. However, he has a full no-trade clause starting next year, so now would be the time to move him if they get a good enough offer. In 59 games this season, he has 24 goals, 47 points, and a plus-12 rating. Like Buchnevich, Kyrou would be a strong option for teams needing another top-six forward.
Schenn making Kypreos’ list is entirely understandable. He has been discussed heavily in the rumor mill this month, and he would be a massive addition to a playoff club’s roster. He has complete control over if he gets moved or not this season, though, as he has a full no-trade clause. In 59 games this season, he has 12 goals, 34 points, and 148 hits. Contenders looking for more leadership and grit in their top nine should have Schenn on their radar.
Parayko is currently in the third season of his eight-year, $52 million contract. Every playoff team would love to have him, as he is a big right-shot defenseman who plays top-pairing minutes, throws the body, and kills penalties. However, he also has a full no-trade clause this season, so he would need to approve any potential move. In 58 games this season, he has a career-high 13 goals to go along with 32 points, 87 hits, 130 blocks, and a plus-6 rating.
