Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton to start season on IL after receiving PRP injections in elbows

Giancarlo Stanton will start the 2025 season on the injured list.

The Yankees made the announcement Saturday afternoon, stating the slugger received PRP injections in both elbows. Stanton entered camp unable to participate in baseball activities because of tennis elbow in both arms.

Stanton went back to New York for an issue that was “personal in nature.” The Yankees confirmed Saturday that Stanton is still in New York dealing with a personal matter but is expected to return to Tampa this coming week.

Stanton, 35, played through elbow issues in 2024, when he slashed .233/.298/.475 with 27 homers and 72 RBI in 114 regular season games. Stanton’s numbers were much better in the playoffs, when he posted a 1.048 OPS with seven home runs and 16 RBI in 14 games.

With Stanton officially on the IL, the Yankees will now use the remainder of spring training to figure out who will break camp with them when the season begins in late March.
