The Texas Longhorns men’s basketball season is over. Now it appears head coach Rodney Terry’s tenure as UT men’s basketball coach is over too.
The Longhorns made a nice run to the quarterfinals in the SEC tournament to get into March Madness. But Texas couldn’t survive the First Four play-in game against Xavier to make it into the official field of 64. The Musketeers beat UT 86-80 in Dayton, Ohio.
Texas finishes the season 19-16. The Horns finished their first season in the SEC in 13th place. The basketball team is the only major program that has struggled in the new league. It seems Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte has seen enough.
Chip Brown of Horns247.com and Jeff Goodman of the Field of 68 are both reporting the decision has been made. Terry is out.
Under Terry, Texas had no real identity, no flow on offense and have now wasted a generational talent in Tre Johnson. Johnson led Texas in scoring against the Musketeers with 23 points.
Well see in the coming days what names are on Chris Del Conte’s short list.
