It was the first midweek matchup of the year for Michigan State baseball, looking to use the midweek games to build the momentum needed for Big Ten play over the weekends.
The Spartans hosted the Oakland Golden Grizzlies during this week’s midweek matchup. Using a fast start, MSU was able to squash their two game losing streak, putting away their in-state opponent, 8-5. MSU improved to 14-6 on the year with the win.
Michigan State was led by Will Shannon and Randy Seymour, who both belted home runs in the game. It was a bullpen day on the mound for the Spartans, who used six pitchers in the game, piecing their way along to the win. Tate Farquhar was credited with the win, while Tyler Horvath got credit for the save.
This weekend, the Spartans will continue Big Ten play, while looking to get on the right side of the .500 mark when they travel to take on Penn State in State College for games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
