Why you shouldn’t write off Michigan football QB Jadyn Davis

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan football is getting a lot of hype in spring ball, in large part due to the inclusion of former five-star and No. 1 overall player in the country, Bryce Underwood, coming in and competing at quarterback. But the room as a whole has been revamped, and it’s not just Underwood who’s working with the ones in spring ball.

The Wolverines also brought in Fresno State quarterback Mikey Keene but, once a five-star at the time of his commitment, Jadyn Davis is also taking a big step forward, according to senior tight end Marlin Klein.

Regardless, he’s seeing a lot from the entire group a few weeks in.

“I think it’s been great. All three QBs, they’re practicing. They’re all great,” Klein said. “Guys that came in early out of high school. Jadyn has been here, transfers, whatever it was. They all have had a really pretty easy adjustment, and they’re all humble and just keep getting better.”

Klein was asked about Underwood and he deflected, noting more about Davis’ emergence. Of course, as he enters his second year, Davis has more time on task in Ann Arbor, and thus Klein has more familiarity with him. And though many are writing him off given Underwood’s talent and ability, Klein says don’t write him off.

“He’s great, he’s doing good, but it’s not just him out there,” Klein said. “So like it’s not every single rep that I take is with Bryce. But yeah, he’s been great ever since he stepped foot on campus.

“But you know, all those other QBs are doing great, too. Jadyn Davis, he’s a completely different QB than what he was three months ago. So just seeing that competition between all of those guys, that’s been really fun and just really competitive at practice.”

So what’s different about Davis?

“I feel like he has more swagger to him, you know, just more confident, seems to make a lot of plays.”
