Former Duck forward is a Don as Mookie Cook transfers to San Francisco

Former Oregon small forward Mookie Cook has found a home.

Once a 5-star recruit, Cook has decided to continue his college career playing for the San Francisco Dons of the West Coast Conference.

When Dana Altman and the Ducks recruited Cook, he was a top-20 player. Unfortunately, his start with the Ducks got derailed early with an ankle injury that limited his availability as a freshman. He played in just five games in 2023-24, and as a sophomore his past season, Cook was down on the depth chart and didn’t see a lot of action.

Cook played in 24 of Oregon’s 35 games and mostly as just a defensive player used on the press. He scored just 27 points for the season, just over a point per appearance.

Playing seems to be a major factor in his leaving the Ducks. At USF, it’s thought he would be a lock for a starting spot with the Dons. At 6-foot-6 and a huge wingspan, Cook should immediately be a factor for USF as they compete in the WCC with the likes of Gonzaga and Oregon State.

With Jadrian Tracey leaving via the portal and TJ Bamba out of eligibility, Altman will need a couple of players similar to them to fill that spot on the floor. But in today’s day and age, the portal should have plenty of players to choose from.
