Commanders WR Luke McCaffrey changes jersey number

Washington Commanders wide receiver Luke McCaffrey will enter his second NFL season in 2025 with a new jersey number. The Commanders revealed on X that McCaffrey is changing his jersey number from No. 12 to No. 11.

It’s a fresh new look for McCaffrey. Beginning his career at Nebraska as a quarterback, McCaffrey donned the No. 7 jersey. After transferring to Rice, he switched to No. 12. However, for his final two seasons, McCaffrey moved to wide receiver, again changing his number, this time to No. 10.

As a rookie for the Commanders, McCaffrey picked the No. 12 jersey and appeared in all 17 games, catching 18 passes for 168 yards. With the departures of Olamide Zaccheaus and Dyami Brown, McCaffrey could be in line for an increased role in 2025, even after the addition of Deebo Samuel across from Terry McLaurin.

Jeremy Chinn wore No. 11 for the Commanders in 2024 and signed a two-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders last month.
