The New York Giants have signed three quarterbacks this offseason — Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and Tommy DeVito — but that doesn’t mean they’re done adding to their quarterback room.
It’s still believed that they will add a quarterback for the future in the 2025 NFL draft, but probably not with their first-round pick, No. 3 overall.
General manager Joe Schoen has indicated that he could “go in any direction” with his first-round pick and that any quarterback they draft would have to be both a value pick as well as “check a lot of boxes.”
Former NFL quarterback turned television analyst Dan Orlovsky believes there is a perfect fit for the Giants in Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, who he called “a rocket ship with the ball in his hands.”
If Milroe makes it to the second round, where the Giants hold the second selection (No. 34 overall), Schoen would surely have a lot to think about. The only issue is Cleveland, who select right before the Giants, could snatch Milroe at No. 33. should they still in the market for a quarterback themselves.
Milroe checks a lot of the boxes Schoen was referring to. He has size (6’2″, 217), speed (he ran a 4.46 40 at his pro day), and has shown excellent field presence and leadership.
With the close connection between Giants head coach Brian Daboll and former Alabama head coach Nick Saban (who recruited Milroe), Orlovsky sees Milroe as a natural fit for the Giants’ system.
Should the Giants select Milroe, he won’t play right away, as Orlovsky believes he will. The Giants have three quarterbacks ahead of him who will likely see the field before he does in his first year.
