Nine former Masters champs made the cut Friday, with two-time champ Scottie Scheffler leading the way at 5-under par, three off the lead, while five past winners made it right on the 2-over-par cutline.

Zach Johnson, Jon Rahm, Charl Schwartzel, Jordan Spieth and Danny Willett all narrowly made the cut Friday, each keeping their hopes alive of winning a second Masters. They’re in a gaggle of 14 players tied for 40th at 2-over par.

Hideki Matsuyama shot a 4-under 68 on Friday to reach 3-under par, as the 2021 champion rallied from a 1-over showing Thursday. Matsuyama is tied for 12th, along with Patrick Reed, who combined for rounds of 71 and 70 to open the tournament.

Bubba Watson (1-under) fired his best opening 36 holes at Augusta since 2020 (also 1-under), as he stands in a tie for 22nd.

Everyone is chasing Justin Rose (8-under par) who is the wire-to-wire 36-hole leader for the third time in his Masters career despite never having claimed a Green Jacket.
