It’s important to note that Pauline added that this was not an official 30 visit. While each team is able to have up to 30 draft prospects at the team facility during the pre-draft process, the Jaguars will only be meeting virtually with players this offseason under GM James Gladstone.
“I can let James [Gladstone] detail that a little bit more,” said Liam Coen via Jaguars on Sports Illustrated. “It’s more so just, hey, we’re trying to keep everything that we’re doing in-house, and trusting that we’ll do some things possibly virtually and that with guys that we need to have another touchpoint with.
“But ultimately, it’s not something that we’re going to be interested in doing at the moment.”
Carlton measured in at 6-056 and weighed 273 pounds. He posted a Relative Athletic Score (RAS) of 5.64, which included a 5.08-second 40 and 9-05 feet in the broad jump.
Depending on where you look, Carlton may be listed as a defensive end, where he played the majority of his snaps at Cal, or a defensive tackle, where he has experience as well. At 273 pounds, he’s either a larger end or a smaller tackle.
During the 2023 season, Carlton was one of the more productive pass rushers in college football, totaling 55 pressures, which ranked as the 14th-most among his position group.
This past year, Carlton’s production dipped, as he tallied just 37 pressures, but he did a better job of finishing, going from three sacks in 2023 to seven.
For what it’s worth, Carlton would finish tied for 86th in PFF’s run defense grade in 2024. Missed tackles and penalties were at times an issue for him.
The defensive line is, as we know, a big need for the Jaguars. This is a position group that we are likely going to see Jacksonville add to multiple times to also help bolster the depth, along with searching for some high-impact help.
In Anthony Campanile’s adaptable defensive scheme, Carlton’s ability to play multiple gaps could be quite valuable.
According to the NFL mock draft database, Carlton is a projected UDFA, although Pauline believes he should be an option on Day 3 of the draft.
