Commanders hosted several players on top 30 visit including Texas star

Remember this time last year when much was made about how the Washington Commanders brought in multiple top quarterbacks for a top 30 visit and how it supposedly upset Jayden Daniels? As we learned later, it was much ado about nothing, and Daniels was always going No. 2 overall to the Commanders.

This year, Washington held another top-30 visit with multiple prospects, only this time, there were no quarterbacks. Several prospects were in town, some projected to go in the first round, while others throughout the draft. It was revealed that three cornerbacks would be a part of the group’s top-30 visit, which included Maxwell Hairston (Kentucky), Jaylin Smith (USC) and Quincy Riley (Louisville).

As it turns out, there was another cornerback in town for Washington’s now-annual trip to Top Golf. According to Instagram, Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron was in attendance with others at Top Golf in Northern Virginia.

This is a big one. Barron could go in the top 10 of next week’s 2025 NFL draft. He surely will not fall outside of the top 20. The 5-foot-11, 194-pound former Longhorn was a three-year starter in college, developing into an All-American. He is known for his ability to play multiple positions in the secondary. Barron can play corner, nickel, or safety and excel in each spot. Barron confirmed his draft status by crushing the NFL combine.

What does this mean for the Commanders? In the event Barron fell, he would be a slam-dunk pick. That’s very unlikely, but perhaps Washington wanted to get one last look at him just in case. Barron would be an immediate difference-maker for Dan Quinn’s defense.

If you analyze the type of cornerbacks Washington has focused on during this pre-draft process, they have something in common: versatility. Being able to play inside and outside is important for the Commanders. Last year’s rookie sensation, Mike Sainristil, proved he could excel on the outside or in the slot. Washington also signed veteran Jonathan Jones, who can play inside or outside.

It will be interesting to see which way the Commanders go with their first-round pick next week.
