There is more pre-draft buzz around a Colts’ mock draft favorite being a top 10 pick.
Penn State tight end Tyler Warren makes all the sense in the world for the Indianapolis Colts at pick No. 14. However, will he be available is perhaps the big question.
As we know, the Colts have a major need at tight end, and Warren brings a well-rounded skill set to the position. He can impact both the run and passing games, and when that element is present in an offense, there is an added layer of unpredictability that unit now has.
But it’s not only the Colts who could benefit from that type of skill set. Just about every NFL team could, which is why it’s not a given that Warren will be available when the Colts are picking.
We’ve heard rumblings from Mel Kiper Jr. that there are a few teams inside the top 10 who could be interested in Warren. In Peter Schrager’s one and only mock draft, the Colts had to trade up to get Warren.
Now, in Dianna Russini’s ‘what I’m hearing’ pre-draft article, there is additional buzz around Warren going in the top 10, specifically to the New York Jets.
“Tight end Tyler Warren was Penn State’s Swiss Army knife in 2024, but what type of role could he have in a Justin Fields-led offense? Expect the Jets to have interest in tight ends, including the Mackey Award winner, with the No. 7 pick,” Russini wrote.
The odds of both Warren and Colston Loveland being available at pick 14 were never that high, as ESPN’s draft day predictor lays out, but according to this metric, there is a good chance that at least one will be available for the Colts.
Warren and Loveland bring different skill sets to the NFL level. So while one of the questions this offseason has been centered around which of the two prospects would the Colts prefer, the decision may be made for them with Warren potentially being off the board.
