When NFL teams enter the draft, the decisions they make and the players they select have a significant impact on everything within the organization.
One area that the Tennessee Titans have addressed this offseason, both in free agency and the draft, that will have a definite effect on the roster’s makeup now and in the future is wide receiver.
After signing veteran free agents Van Jefferson and Tyler Lockett, the Titans made three significant additions over draft weekend, selecting Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor in the fourth round and signing one of Cam Ward’s favorite targets, Xavier Restrepo, as an undrafted rookie free agent.
All of these additions have a direct impact on one veteran receiver and his contractual status going forward.
When asked about the fifth-year option on disappointing wideout Treylon Burks, president of football operations Chad Brinker offered a lukewarm response, saying “probably not” when asked specifically about the receiver and his option during a post-draft press conference.
This move should not come as a surprise to Burks or anyone else. The former first-round wide receiver has failed to live up to his pedigree and has been a bust, spending more time injured and on the sidelines than on the field. Even when he has been available, he has not been productive.
Burks may not be ready for training camp and is currently rehabbing his knee after tearing his ACL during the 2024 season. Once he returns, he will have an uphill climb to even make the roster in 2025 in what has suddenly become a crowded wide receiver room in Nashville.
