Gillian Robertson turned in a dominant performance at UFC on ESPN 67, leading to a finish that prompted Marina Rodriguez to retire.
Gillian Robertson is putting together an impressive run at strawweight.
At UFC on ESPN 67, Robertson (16-8 MMA, 13-6 UFC) took on Marina Rodriguez on the preliminary card. It was a dominant performance that overwhelmed Rodriguez (17-6-2 MMA, 7-6-2 UFC), leading to a TKO stoppage at 2:07 in Round 2.
The fight was Robertson’s the whole way through.
“The Savage” lived up to her nickname with a relentless attack on the ground in the opening round, where she consistently hunted for submissions while landing big shots on the ground.
In the second frame, Rodriguez attempted to slap on a choke as Robertson looked for an early takedown. Robertson patiently worked her way out of the hold and returned to her aggressive attacks on the mat. Robertson postured up and rained down a barrage of punches until the referee stopped the fight.
With the win, Robertson extends her win streak to four, which includes a stoppage of Polyana Viana and a pair of decisions over Michelle Waterson-Gomez and Luana Pinheiro. During her post-fight interview, Robertson called for Amanda Lemos next.
After the fight, Rodriguez announced her retirement. The three-time UFC headliner walks away from the sport on a three-fight skid. Her last victory was a TKO finish of Waterson-Gomez in September 2023.
