Heidenheim goalkeeper Müller ‘doing much better’ after collision

Heidenheim goalkeeper Kevin Müller is “doing much better” after being concussed in a heavy collision in their Bundesliga match against Bochum, club chairman Holger Sanwald has said.

“He is responsive, he answers in a normal way. He is still feeling a little bit dizzy,” Sanwald told broadcasters ZDF late Saturday.

“He is well again. We are also hopeful that he can return soon. He is already asking when he can be back on the pitch.”

Müller, 34, and Bochum player Ibrahima Sissoko collided in the 50th minute of Friday’s 0-0 draw.

Müller was briefly knocked unconscious and was treated for some 10 minutes on the pitch before being taken off on a stretcher and to hospital where the concussion was diagnosed.

Müller remains in hospital but was transferred to a regular ward on Saturday morning, Sanwald said.

Sanwald also praised the fans from both teams who had chanted Müller’s name when he was taken off the pitch.

‘I can only pay a big compliment to the Bochum fans, but also to our fans: that was great and certainly helped Kevin Müller a lot,” Sanwald said.

The incident came two weeks after a similarly nasty colission between RB Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi and Holstein Kiel player David Zec, in which both were concussed.
