The Spartans are reportedly one of three schools heavily pursuing an ACC transfer point guard with starting experience

Michigan State basketball is reportedly one of the three schools most heavily pursuing a former ACC point guard in the transfer portal.

Miami (FL) transfer Divine Ugochukwu recently told LeagueRDY that Michigan State, USC and Texas Tech are the three schools recruiting him the hardest right now. He entered the transfer portal on April 2 and is still looking for his next home.

Ugochukwu was a three-star combo guard in the 2024 class, and played one season at Miami (FL) this past year. He started 16 of the 28 games he appeared in for the Hurricanes during his true freshman season, where he averaged 5.3 points and 2.3 assists per game. He shot 48.3% from the field but was not much of a factor from behind the arc with a 17.6% mark from three-point range.

Ugochukwu has three years of eligibility remaining. He has reportedly also heard from or been in contact with Kentucky, Baylor, Pittsburgh, Iowa, Texas, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech, Dayton, South Florida, Vanderbilt, High Point, Ball State and Louisiana since entering the transfer portal.

Michigan State has added a pair of players already via the transfer portal in Trey Fort and Kaleb Glenn, both of which are expected to either start or be key players off the bench next year. The Spartans, however, still need at least one more addition to the roster to be a backup point guard to starter Jeremy Fears Jr. It appears Ugochukwu could be exactly that for Michigan State.
