5 players 49ers can add to help weak spots on roster

The 2025 NFL draft has come and gone.

San Francisco addressed a number of its needs with its 11 picks in the NFL draft. But, the 49ers have more holes they could potentially plug via trade.

The Pro Football Network put together its list of potential cut or trade candidates for all 32 NFL teams. If several of these names are on the trading block, the 49ers should take a look.

Here’s a few names that Pro Football Network featured around the league that San Francisco could potentially inquire about.

Jadeveon Clowney

The 32-year-old might not fit into the Carolina Panthers’ rebuilding timeline. As Clowney enters a contract year, the former No. 1 overall pick carries a $13.7 million cap hit.

Though San Francisco drafted Georgia edge rusher Mykel Williams with its first-round pick, adding an experienced pass-rusher to work opposite Nick Bosa would be a welcome sight. Clowney has 58 career sacks and tallied 5.5 last season.

A.J. Epenesa

Another potential veteran option for some pass-rushing help is Buffalo defensive end A.J. Epenesa. The 26-year-old is entering the final year of his contract with a $7.4 million cap hit.

Epenesa has notched at least six sacks in each of the past three seasons with the Bills. But, Buffalo drafted edge rusher Landon Jackson in the third round and the Bills signed Joey Bosa and Michael Hoecht in free agency.

Liam Eichenberg

Liam Eichenberg has started 52 games over his four-year NFL career thus far, including 14 a season ago. The Notre Dame alum winds up as potential trade bait from PFN because Miami signed James Daniels and drafted Arizona guard Jonah Savaiinaea.

Eichenberg could beef up the interior of the 49ers offensive line and he carries just a $1.3 million cap hit.

Jamel Dean

Jamel Dean was one of the higher-graded corners in the NFL a season ago. According to Pro Football Focus, Dean ranked as the league’s No. 26 corner with a defensive grade of 75.75 and a coverage grade of 75.4.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted a pair of cornerbacks in the draft in Benjamin Morrison and Jacob Parrish. That could open up the door to a potential trade.

Dean would come with two years left on his contract, offering some team control for San Francisco. The 6-foot-1 corner has eight career interceptions and one touchdown in his NFL career.

Dean carries a $15.1 million cap hit in 2025 and a $15.7 million cap hit in 2026.

DaRon Bland

DaRon Bland could be a name to watch as the 2025 season unfolds. The Dallas Cowboys cornerback was a first-team All-Pro in 2023, but injuries limited him to just seven games in 2024. Plus, Dallas drafted East Carolina corner Shavon Revel Jr.

Revel is coming off an ACL injury of his own, but he was projected as a first-round talent before the injury and the Cowboys might find he’s tough to keep off the field.
