Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury “is a tireless worker.”
That was the first thing Washington GM Adam Peters voiced, describing Kingsbury, during Peters’ appearance on Tuesday on the “Pat McAfee Show”.
Peters then recounted a recent story to illustrate Kingsbury’s work ethic. “It’s unbelievable how much he works,” continued Peters. Peters then described how Kingsbury has been watching tape of players for the Commanders draft, schemes, and plays of the best offenses in the college game in the offseason.
Usually, Kingsbury watches the skill position players and the plays of college offenses. In this particular case, however, Peters told McAfee that Kingsbury had watched every snap of Oregon this past season. Was that hyperbole to demonstrate that Kingsbury has watched a ton of tape? Or was it literally the truth?
The week of the 2025 NFL draft, Kingsbury came by Peters’ office to discuss this further with the general manager. However, finding Peters not in his office, Kingsbury took out a sheet of paper and wrote a message to Peters on it. The message read, “I stopped by. Take Oregon tackle. Thx, Kliff.”
That is exactly what Peters established to do when the Commanders came on the clock for the 29th pick in the draft last week.
Not yet finished extolling Kingsbury, Peters shared with McAfee, “He’s a great coach. And he’s a great person.” McAfee expressed it is not a secret that Kingsbury was contacted about some head coach jobs this offseason.
“But I think what’s cool about here is the culture DQ (Dan Quinn) has created. People want to be here. People want to stay here. They’re having fun working. They’re having fun playing. It makes it an easy decision. If it is not your perfect role that you want to move up to, you have a great home here.”
Peters is no doubt glad to have Kingsbury around to coach up Jayden Daniels and direct the offense in 2025. Apparently, Peters is also happy to have Kingsbury around to help with the Commanders’ draft as well.
