The Washington Commanders’ uniforms are a divisive topic amongst the fan base. Since rebranding as the Commanders in 2022, fans have either taken issue with the new name, uniforms, or both. Of course, it didn’t help that the team wasn’t very good.
That all changed last season as rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels led an impressive one-year turnaround, taking Washington from a 4-13 record in 2023 to a 12-5 finish in 2024. It was the franchise’s best season in 33 years. Daniels’ No. 5 jersey was a top seller all season, and suddenly there weren’t as many complaints about the name or uniforms.
Last season, there were rumors that the Commanders may debut new uniforms in 2025 that look quite similar to the old uniforms. While owner Josh Harris ruled out another name change, the potential return of the old uniforms was exciting. However, we’ve heard nothing about new uniforms for next season, but Washington could be in line for a new look.
According to SportsLogos.net, the Commanders are one of five NFL teams that could debut new alternate helmets before the 2025 season. Washington’s current alternates are the all-black uniforms with the black helmets, with each player’s number as the decal.

The Commanders, meanwhile, have worn black alternate helmets alongside their black alternate uniforms since their rebrand from the Washington Football Team in 2022. We expect they’ll adjust the decals to match their standard burgundy helmets rather than add a new gold helmet or any other color shell.
Black jerseys are another divisive topic for traditional Washington fans. Some do not like them because they do not fit the burgundy and gold color scheme.

If this design is accurate or even close to accurate, it would be a significant upgrade for the Commanders. Some fans will never like the black alternates, but for those who do, they likely prefer the logo on the helmet instead of numbers.
