Quinn Ewers Breaks Silence on NFL Draft Disappointment

Former Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers experienced a shocking slide in the 2025 NFL Draft, falling to the seventh round before being selected 231st overall by the Miami Dolphins.

Once a projected first-round pick, Ewers was the 14th and final quarterback drafted, behind lesser-known names like FCS star Cam Miller.

In a candid interview with The Associated Press, Ewers admitted, “I didn’t expect to fall as low as I did,” but expressed gratitude for the opportunity to prove himself.

Ewers’ draft slide stemmed from a multitude of factors. Injuries, including oblique and ankle issues, raised concerns about his durability.

Scouts noted his elite arm talent but criticized inconsistent mechanics and decision-making under pressure as major flaws. Some NFL teams hesitated to draft him earlier, wary that his high-profile status could create distractions as a backup.

The deep 2025 quarterback class and scrutiny from Arch Manning’s presence at Texas may have also impacted his stock. Despite the setback, Ewers is motivated to succeed with the Dolphins, where he’ll compete with Tua Tagovailoa and Zach Wilson.

“There’s a lot of guys out there right now, and everyone’s fighting for the same job,” Ewers stated.

Head coach Mike McDaniel’s vertical passing attack suits his deep-ball accuracy, and Tagovailoa’s injury history could open doors.

Ewers’ $4.3 million rookie contract pales compared to the $6-8 million NIL offer he declined, but his lifelong NFL dream drives him. As he embraces his underdog role, Ewers aims to turn disappointment into triumph, proving the Dolphins landed a steal.
