Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks have shown an impressive ability to pivot over the past month.
Last week, 5-star quarterback Jared Curtis announced his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs over the Ducks. Not long after that announcement, a flurry of predictions came in for Oregon to land 5-star QB Ryder Lyons instead. Now, with 5-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell announcing his commitment to the Miami Hurricanes on Tuesday afternoon, it doesn’t come as a huge surprise to see a flurry of predictions flow in for the Ducks to land 5-star OT Immanuel Iheanacho in the 2026 class.
Within minutes of Cantwell’s announcement, several predictions were made, including from On3’s Steve Wiltfong and Justin Hopkins, plus 247Sports’ Matt Prehm.
Over the weekend, 247Sports reported that Iheanacho is down to four schools at the moment, with the Ducks leading the way and the hometown Maryland Terrapins no longer in the running. This is notable, considering that Maryland was considered one of the leaders, if not the sole leader, in his recruitment until that point.
On Monday, the 247Sports Recruiting Staff logged a prediction for Iheanacho to end up at Oregon. He will take his final official visit to Eugene on June 22 and announce his commitment on August 5. Standing at 6-foot-7, 350 pounds, Iheanacho is a massive product who is among the top players on Oregon’s board this cycle. The 247Sports Composite rates him as the No. 4 overall player in the 2026 class and the No. 2 OT.
The Ducks picked up a commitment from 5-star EDGE Richard Wesley over the weekend, and they also landed a projection to get a commitment from 4-star WR Messiah Hampton on Monday morning as well.
