Eureka’s McDole, Vaught make All-State in golf


SHELBY — Eureka’s Conner McDole shot rounds of 80 and 76 to tie for eighth at the State B golf tournament that concluded Wednesday at Marias Valley Golf and Country Club.

McDole was one of two Lions to make All-State for finishing in the top 15: Sophie Vaught tied for 15th on the girls side with a two-day total of 196. She and McDole were the lone Eureka golfers to qualify for state. 

McDole was tied for 11th after the first round. On Wednesday, only medalist ZAch Munding of Missoula Loyola (72, two-day total of 146) and Huntley Project’s Griffin Zimmer (75, tied for third at 154) shot lower scores. 

McDole tied with Choteau’s Kael Meyer for eighth. Boulder’s Tyson Lee, who shot 76 on Wednesday, finished second with a total of 147. 

Boulder won its second straight boys team title with 330, 10 strokes ahead of Three Forks. 

Florence, behind medalist Kipley Solari, won the girls team title with a score of 385. Host Shelby was second at 397, one stroke ahead of defending champion Lone Peak.
