NFL owners to be voting again this week regarding the ‘Tush Push’

Packers had brought proposal to NFL owners challenging the continued use of blocking behind the line of scrimmage in the ‘Tush Push’.

Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu spoke out Monday regarding the “Tush Push.”

As a guest on “Good Morning Football,” the show, of course, wanted to stir the pot on the controversial version of a quarterback sneak run by the Eagles over the last three NFL seasons. The NFL owners met a month ago, discussed the play, but didn’t vote, deciding to table the matter and bring it up at their next meetings.

Of course, Luvu was asked about the play because he went over the top of the Eagles’ offensive line in the NFC Championship game, hoping to anticipate the snap count and make contact with Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts before he was shoved in the back and pushed forward by an Eagle lining up just behind him. Luvu was penalized twice for leaping over the Eagles’ offensive line prior to the ball being snapped.

GMFB host Kyle Brandt was looking for a quote from Luvu for some entertaining live television. With the owners meeting later this week to vote on this and a few other matters, GMFB hoped to stoke the fire of present NFL dialogue, regarding the “Brotherly Shove,” as it is known in Philly.

“Is it unfair, and should the league ban it?” Luvu acted as if he were surprised to be asked such a direct and loaded question. He shouldn’t have been surprised at all. “Man, uh (pause), my personal opinion? I think they should ban it. I know the argument is going to be you guys have to stop it. “I think they should ban it. It’s a cheat code play. It’s pretty much a scrum in rugby.”

Though NFL fans and NFL media on certain television stations would love to make this about the Eagles and the Commanders, it is far from it. Prior to last season, there were those who began talking about how, in their view, the “Tush Push” may not be good for the NFL game, as the play could set a precedent for more rugby-style plays.

Of course, Eagles fans took to Twitter (X); sports media ran with it.

The Commanders’ leaders, head coach Dan Quinn and GM Adam Peters, have been quiet about this, preferring to let the Packers speak to it, seeing that they are the team that officially brought the legal challenge of the play to the NFL.

Luvu didn’t get the memo, or did Luvu choose to ignore the memo?
