The Oregon Ducks are coming off a magical season where they finished 13-1 and didn’t lose a single game until they dropped the Rose Bowl to Ohio State. Despite the disappointing end to the season, the Ducks accomplished their main objective which is to develop talent and have a shot at winning the national championship.
This presented itself during the NFL draft, when the program saw 10 of its players get drafted to the NFL. Every college team is ecstatic when any of their players get their names called by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, but Oregon also has a staggering number of players in the transfer portal, so it will have to battle through extreme roster turnover.
ESPN’s Bill Connelly gave his returning production ranks for all FBS teams and the Ducks were near the bottom. Connelly ranked them No. 104 out of 136 teams which isn’t surprising with over 20 players from last year’s roster moving on to greener pastures.
Their returning production was marked at 42%, so head coach Dan Lanning will be tasked with courting great transfers and further developing younger players on the roster. It won’t be an easy feat, but Lanning has proven to be a great adaptor and recruiter.
Oregon has been one of the college football powerhouses since Lanning’s arrival, but this season could prove to be his greatest challenge yet.
