The Trinity High School and St. Xavier baseball teams — ranked Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, in Kentucky — drew on opposite sides of the Seventh Region Tournament bracket and could meet in the championship game.
Draws for the Seventh and Eighth Region baseball and softball tournaments were held Friday morning. Quarterfinal play is set for Sunday as teams chase regional championships and spots in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association state tournaments.
Trinity (31-3) will host Eastern (23-12) at 1 p.m. Sunday in a Seventh Region baseball quarterfinal. The regional features the top three teams in the state — Trinity, St. X (27-6) and No. 3 Ballard (28-3-1) — according to Prep Baseball Report Kentucky.
The Seventh Region final is set for 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the University of Louisville’s Patterson Stadium.
No. 6 Pleasure Ridge Park (24-6), the defending state champion, and No. 25 Bullitt East (25-8) won their first two games in the Sixth Region’s super-regional format and could meet in Wednesday’s 5:30 p.m. championship game at Patterson Stadium.
Simon Kenton (17-10) is the defending champion in the Eighth Region and will host Collins (20-13) at 7 p.m. Sunday in a quarterfinal.
No. 3 Assumption (28-6) is the defending Seventh Region softball champion and will host Sacred Heart (11-10) at 1 p.m. Sunday in a quarterfinal. The field also includes No. 8 Male (23-8) and No. 15 Ballard (20-11).
Mercy (19-12) is seeking its third straight Sixth Region title and will face Pleasure Ridge Park (9-20) in a semifinal at 1 p.m. Monday at U of L’s Ulmer Stadium. The Jaguars could face No. 14 Bullitt East (22-5) in Wednesday’s championship game.
No. 11 Oldham County (28-6) and No. 13 Anderson County (25-6), the defending champion, headline the field for the Eighth Region Tournament.
