Matthew Golden is impressing his new Packers QB Jordan Love

Jordan Love is excited to see what the future holds for Matthew Golden

As Matthew Golden prepares for his first NFL season, expectations are high. After a stellar 2024 campaign with the Longhorns, the Green Bay Packers made the Texas native a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. While the last few weeks have been full of changes, Golden is taking everything in stride and making a good first impression.

One teammate who has been impressed is Golden’s new QB, Jordan Love. In an interview with the Athletics Matt Schneidman, Love talked about his newest weapon and what he has seen.

“I’m excited to see just his potential on the football field,” Love said. “Just the start we’ve had…he looks like a stud, looks like a very polished receiver.”

For many in college football, Love’s praise comes as no surprise. During his only season as a Longhorn, Golden hauled in 58 catches for 987 yards. He also found the end zone nine times while averaging 61.7 yards per game. Regardless of who was under center, Golden was a human highlight reel. That caught the eye of Green Bay, which didn’t pass up a chance to add the talented wide receiver to their offense.

Golden will be joining a Packers team that made it to the first round of the playoffs, with Love leading the way. He finished the 2024 campaign with 3,389 passing yards and 25 touchdowns. Those statistics should improve with a player like Golden now in the mix. The Packers’ best wide receiver last year was Jayden Reed, who recorded 837 receiving yards.

While Golden will be closely watched, it is a challenge he is ready for. In college, he thrived in the spotlight, which should continue in the NFL. It is also helps that he is already standing out to Jordan Love.
