Vols defeat Cincinnati, advance to Knoxville Regional title game

No. 14 national seed Tennessee (44-16) defeated Cincinnati (33-25), 10-6, Saturday in a winner’s bracket game of the 2025 NCAA Tournament Knoxville Regional at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Tennessee will play the winner of the Cincinnati-Wake Forest game with first pitch slated for 6 p.m. EDT on Sunday.

The Vols need one win to advance to next week’s super regional.

Tennessee led, 2-0, in the first inning after Dean Curley hit a two-run single. He extended the Vols’ advantage to, 3-0, after he hit a solo home run in the third inning. Curley went 2-for-4. He totaled one home run, four RBIs and one run.

Tennessee leadoff hitter Gavin Kilen went 4-for-6. He recorded one triple and scored three runs, while Andrew Fischer went 2-for-4. He hit two doubles, recorded three RBIs and scored two runs.

Cannon Peebles went 2-for-5. He hit two doubles and scored two runs, while Manny Marin went 1-for-5 and recorded two RBIs for the Vols.

Marcus Phillips (4-4) started and pitched six innings. He allowed three runs, four hits and four walks. Phillips recorded eight strikeouts, while totaling 98 pitches, including 59 strikes. AJ Russell and Brandon Arvidson appeared in relief for Vols.
