Michigan State appears to have made a “really good hire” for its next athletic director, according to one national writer.
News broke on Sunday that Michigan State has reportedly hired its next athletic director: J Batt. He will be coming from Georgia Tech where he served as their athletic director since 2022 and experienced a lot of success in that role.
Once the news of Batt’s hiring by the Spartans became known, many started to weigh-in on the move. That included ESPN senior write Dan Wetzel, who had a very and simple statement on the hiring of Batt: “Really good hire by Michigan State.”
Batt became well known for his impressive ability in fundraising for the athletics department during his time at Georgia Tech. He also built up a strong resume in this realm at Alabama prior to taking the athletic director position with the Yellow Jackets. Batt served as the Batt was the executive deputy director of athletics, chief operating officer and chief revenue officer across his five years at Alabama from 2017-2022.
Like Wetzel, I’m excited about this hire by Michigan State since he brings experience in a key area that the Spartans have reportedly struggled in under former athletic director Alan Haller. If Batt is as good in fundraising as people are saying, then this is a slam dunk hire for the Spartans’ athletics department.
