Texas is set to host four-star edge Jamarion Carlton this Friday for an official visit. This is a crucial one because Carlton has set a commitment date for July 10. However, that’s not all he’s done.
Carlton has 27 total offers from some of the top programs in the country. He has narrowed his choices down to five schools. They are LSU, Baylor, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Texas.
Rivals has pegged Carlton as the No. 46 overall recruit and the nation’s No. 4 edge. The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder is ranked as the No. 4 prospect in Texas as well.
According to Carlton, the Longhorns have been consistent with their pursuit of him.
“Texas has been here a whole lot,” Carlton told Rivals. “They blow up my phone every day here regardless. They’re everywhere. They call my mom, they try to get in touch with me as much as they can.”
Texas has a new edge coach on their staff in LaAllan Clark. He spent the last two years at Ohio State as a graduate assistant, and he worked with nine All-Big Ten defensive linemen. Carlton has had a bond with Clark since that time, which he also spoke about.
“I’ve had a relationship with Coach Clark since he was at Ohio State,” said Carlton. “I’ve seen how he develops players, how he’s trained NFL players, and I know he can develop me as a player, as a person, and as a man. He has the same background as me.”
Carlton recently took visits to Texas Tech and LSU last weekend. Plus, he’ll go see Texas A&M and Baylor before the month is over. The Longhorns need to pull out all the stops this weekend when Carlton comes to Austin.
