
Zach Hare speaks after throwing no-hitter in PIAA quarterfinals

The PIAA baseball and softball playoffs rolled on June 5 with the quarterfinal round commencing as six Beaver Valley teams fighting to advance to the semifinal round on June 9.
Here is a look at all of the action from across the Beaver Valley.
PIAA Baseball Quarterfinals
Freedom Area 7, Redbank Valley 6 (8 innings)
It took extra innings, but Freedom Area’s season continued, picking up its second PIAA playoff victory in program history walking off Redbank Valley. Anthony Taddeo scored the game’s winning run scoring on a Boden Hilliard fly ball. Zach Kuntz went 6⅓ innings allowing six unearned runs while striking out three.
South Park 6, Quaker Valley 5
Quaker Valley had South Park on the ropes after Ryan Finamore hit a grand slam in the sixth inning. However, South Park stormed back and walked it off in the bottom of the seventh to advance. Finamore led the team offensively going 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Oscar Roig also had a multi-hit game collecting two hits in the loss.
Indiana 8, Central Valley 0
Will Ciucci went toe-to-toe with Indiana junior pitcher Sullivan Vanhoose for his first four innings of work before the Indiana bats got to the junior pitcher in the fifth inning. Central Valley ends its historic season (14-12) after advancing to the WPIAL semifinals for the first time and also winning its first state playoff game in program history.
PIAA Softball Quarterfinals
Kennard-Dale 6, Blackhawk 2
West Allegheny 5, Twin Valley 2
Despite falling behind by a run in the third, West Allegheny’s bats came alive in the final four innings to defeat Twin Valley. Catcher Ava Henke and center fielder Maylee Rider homered in the victory while Kate Cook had two hits and drove in a pair. Autumn Bielecki pitched a complete game allowing two runs on eight hits and setting down three.
