More than a dozen programs have seen enough of class of 2028 quarterback Jackson Stecher to extend a scholarship offer his way.
But the tender that came in Thursday, following a camp performance at Florida State, created more movement than any program has to this point with the Altamonte Springs (Fla.) Lake Brantley prospect.

“This one means a lot,” Stecher told Rivals. “I’ve been really getting close with Coach (Tony) Tokarz in the last year. Coach (Gus) Malzahn had offered me at UCF and Coach (Brendan) Bognar at Samford so I have gotten really close with the staff as a whole.
“FSU is on top of the leaderboard for sure!”
The rising-sophomore recruit has frequented Tallahassee of late, making multiple unofficial visits to campus before the head-turning camp performance went down. The familiarity, depth with the current coaching staff and more projects the Seminoles as the early favorite in the race for the passer’s commitment.
“Everything with those coaches seem so comfortable and natural,” Stecher said. “Talking film with Coach Tokarz is really cool…Coach Malzahn was talking to me after almost every rep (Thursday). We can talk route concept against different defensive looks and ball placement on each one. That’s the stuff I really love.

“When a coach wants to sit down and watch film I think that’s a huge plus because I love that part of being a quarterback and it’s rare I get to show that off right now.”

Of course many within the Sunshine State have eyes on Mike Norvell and Tallahassee because of the extremes seen on the field through a perfect regular season in 2023 through staff-changing lows in 2024.

The slide doesn’t damper future expectations for the program’s newest quarterback target.
“You also can’t deny the tradition and standard of FSU football,” Stecher said. “They went through a bad season but I don’t expect that to last very long. Being at spring practices and watching Coach Norvell run around the field and be hyped during meetings made me want to get on the field then!”
The earned offer won’t slow the effort from Stecher, who already holds a pair of state championships to his name stemming from his days at former prep program Master’s Academy.
He’ll tour more Power Four programs and compete throughout the month of June.

“Interest is definitely climbing right now,” he said. “We’ll see what happens in the next couple of weeks. I am heading up to UNC on Sunday, UF Monday, A&M on Thursday, Ohio State on the 17th, and then wrapping up the summer at Tennessee on the 22nd.”
As a freshman last fall, Stecher totaled 40 touchdowns (38 passing) and about 3,000 total yards against just two interceptions over 11 games. He is in no rush to make an early verbal commitment.
