Shedeur Sanders Should be Browns’ No. 2 QB, says Cleveland Hosts originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
On 92.3 The Fan’s “Wake Up With Earl Da Pearl and Spencer German,” the hosts strongly advocated for Shedeur Sanders to begin Browns training camp as the No. 2 quarterback on the depth chart.
Earl Da Pearl led the discussion by praising Sanders’ growth and performance during the offseason. He emphasized that trusted football insiders have spoken highly of Sanders’ ability to process the system and translate that understanding into on-field execution. “We are talking about a guy learning a system, being able to process what he’s learning and then being able to transfer that into success on the football field,” stated Pearl
Earl made the case that Sanders’ clear upside and ability to earn veteran respect, regardless of which team unit he’s been running with make him a lock for the QB2 role heading into camp.
Spencer German agreed, citing Sanders’ consistency as the main reason he also sees him as QB2. German added that while Sanders hasn’t taken reps with the first team yet, which limits the possibility of calling him QB1, his steady play warrants a look with the top unit once camp starts.
“He’s earned the right when training camp opens up to get some reps with the ones,” said German. “I’m curious to see what that looks like, but he’s the one quarterback who hasn’t done that yet and so until I see that I can’t put him number one.”
Both hosts concluded that, based on his offseason performance, Shedeur Sanders has outperformed expectations and shown enough to move ahead of other quarterbacks on the roster, at least to the No. 2 spot, with a chance to compete for more.
