Los Angeles Lakers rookie sharpshooter Dalton Knecht has seen his name come up in plenty of trade rumors and mock trades lately. Of course, he was included in that failed trade for Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams back in February that was rescinded when Williams reportedly failed his physical.
If Knecht remains with the Lakers for next season, he has every chance of becoming a very useful player for them. He already flashed his deadly 3-point shooting for sizable stretches this season, and he also showed the ability to score at all three levels, finish strong at the rim and make things happen on the fast break.
He told TMZ that he and LeBron James could possibly play together for another five to 10 years after James said he’s physically capable of remaining in the NBA for that amount of time.
“He said he can play another 5, 10 years,” Knecht said of James. “So, me and ‘Bron could run it for another five, 10 years. Why not?!”
However, despite Knecht’s wishes, James will almost certainly not play another five, let alone 10, seasons in the NBA. Back in November, he made it clear that he won’t play “until the wheels fall off.”
He has a player option for next season, and there is a very real chance that next season will be his finale in the league. However, history has shown that one can never be sure what to expect from him.
