76ers decline team option on Lonnie Walker IV, send him to free agency

The Philadelphia 76ers are continuing their preparation for free agency on June 30 as they get their ducks in a row for when the time comes. After declining the team option on Jared Butler recently, the Sixers had to make another team option decision on Lonnie Walker IV.

The Sixers decided to decline the $2.3 million team option on Walker after Philadelphia brought him back from overseas in February. He played in in 20 games for the Sixers–with seven starts–and averaged 12.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists while shooting 42% from the floor and 35.4% from deep. He will now enter free agency in an effort to find his next NBA opportunity.

The Sixers created a little more cap space by deciding to decline Walker. Philadelphia has to come up with every dollar it can in order to make an effort to bring back Quentin Grimes and Guerschon Yabusele with free agency right around the corner.
