Sixers bigs Johni Broome, Adem Bona working on corner 3s at practice

CAMDEN, N.J. — The summer league is a time for the Philadelphia 76ers to assess their young players’ potential as they move forward in their careers. The Sixers will be looking to unlock what rookies VJ Edgecombe, Johni Broome, and Hunter Sallis as well as second-year players such as Justin Edwards and Adem Bona.

The Sixers convened at the team’s practice facility on Tuesday to continue preparation for the summer league and they were able to get after it for a good day of work and practice. What stood out was the fact that big man Broome and Bona were working on corner triples after practice, which could signal that is something the Sixers want to experiment with in summer league.

“I just want to get better each and every day,” Broome said of summer league. “Continue to grind. Step by step, playing with my teammates, earning the guys’ trust, and most importantly, win.”

The summer league is the time to experiment and put things together for the future. The Sixers have a lot of intriguing young prospects so one has to wonder if summer league coach TJ DiLeo would like to see both Broome and Bona put up some 3s. The game is so predicated on that 3-point shot–and moving towards double bigs again–so the Sixers could want to see what they have in these big men.

The summer league begins on Saturday for the Sixers when they take on the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City.
