Who would be on the Bucs Mt. Rushmore this quarter century?

The most popular discussion among fans of any sport or league is always, “Who is on the Mt. Rushmore of X?” One analyst recently answered that question for each franchise around the NFL, and for a team like the Bucs, the answer to that question can prove challenging.

However, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox took a different approach to the Mt. Rushmore discussion, focusing solely on the last 25 years of team history when making his decisions. It allows recent memories of fans to reign supreme, but can also take away some of the more complex decision-making.

For the Bucs, Knox rolled with the following to make up their Mt. Rushmore:

  • Ronde Barber
  • Derrick Brooks
  • Warren Sapp
  • Mike Evans

Knox explains his choices, writing, “Brooks and Barber are already in the Hall of Fame, and wide receiver Mike Evans figures to join them roughly five years after he retires. The six-time Pro Bowler is still going strong and just tied Jerry Rice with 11 consecutive seasons of 1,000 receiving yards. He’s also the franchise’s all-time leader in receptions (836), receiving yards (12,684) and receiving touchdowns (105).”

Having three Hall of Famers and one future Hall of Famer isn’t a bad group to have.

The Bucs have had some other great players during this time, such as Simeon Rice, Lavonte David, Gerald McCoy, and Warrick Dunn, but none fit the billing of those top four. While David may have a point, Evans’ association with Jerry Rice in the record books lends some weight to the argument.
