They were quizzed about how they would spend the £680,000 prize money, and while Glasspool’s answer may have been more sensible, Cash opted to go for something on two wheels instead.
When asked about the topic in their media conference, Cash said: “I mean, for me no idea at all [about the amount], but yeah, obviously amazing to win that kind of money this year.
“For me, it’s already been great on that front, better than any year I’ve had. Yeah, doesn’t necessarily change anything for us. We’ve got more goals this year, and I think this will obviously give us an awful lot of confidence, and a lot of teams will fear us for the rest of the season.”
Glasspool then added: “I know he’s [Cash] buying a new motorbike, by the way.”
There has been at least one British winner in the men’s doubles in each of the last three years thanks to the exploits of Neal Skupski and Henry Patten.
Cash believes that these achievements deserve more recognition, and added: “Yeah, for sure. I think the fact that so many people do well almost takes away from what’s being achieved.
“You look here. It’s been a British winner the last three years, so it almost looks normal. Yeah, I mean, I definitely think there should be more publicity, more press on it.
“I think there’s a lot of personalities out there that people would love, and I think for me the main thing is when people know who’s playing, they’re interested.
“I mean, the doubles today, we’re on Centre Court. It’s full. Everyone is having a great time and enjoying watching.
“I wish there was more, but I think all we can do is keep our head down and keep trying to play the sport the best we can and trying to make the product as good for people as possible.”
Glasspool also praised the decision by the tournament’s organisers to hold the final on Centre before the women’s singles final.
He added: “I think that was an amazing move by Wimbledon, especially with doubles normally being a lot shorter than singles. People can fill up towards the end as well and then kind of get ready for the main event, so to say.
“If you had it after, a lot of people would kind of just watch the singles, there’s quite a big gap in between, and go home. This way I think both of the matches will be full, and it gives us all day to celebrate. I prefer it that way.”
