The Green Bay Packers released two defensive linemen from the 90-man roster ahead of Wednesday’s start to training camp. The team announced the release of defensive lineman Cameron Young and defensive lineman Nesta Jade Silvera on Friday.
Young, a former draft pick of the Seattle Seahawks, was signed by the Packers on June 10. Silvera, a former draft pick of the Las Vegas Raiders, signed a futures deal with the Packers on Jan. 14. Neither will be on the roster when the Packers open training camp on July 23.
Quarterbacks, rookies and injured players reported to training camp for the Packers on Friday. More than likely, the team saw injury weaknesses in the 90-man roster and determined cuts were necessary at defensive line, a position group with plenty of depth entering training camp. The Packers now have roster spots open for signings at other positions needing better numbers to open camp.
As of Friday, the Packers have Kenny Clark, Devonte Wyatt, Karl Brooks, Colby Wooden, sixth-round pick Warren Brinson, undrafted free agent Nazir Stackhouse, James Ester and Keith Randolph at interior defensive line.
Both Young and Silvera will go on waivers. The claiming deadline for both players is Saturday at 3:00 p.m. CT.
