How Kyren Wilson could earn a career record £1m in first three months of new snooker season after Shanghai Masters triumph

The 2024 world champion will head for Jeddah and the Saudi Arabia Masters, live on TNT Sports and discovery+ between August 8-16, with the chance to earn a first prize of £500,000, the richest winner’s cheque in the sport alongside the Crucible in Sheffield.
That could enhance Wilson’s earnings to £710,000 before he returns to China for the Wuhan Open later this month, live on TNT Sports and discovery+ from August 24-30, and the opportunity to chase a further £140,000.

Winning all three events could snare Wilson £850,000 before the English Open in Brentwood, the first Home Nations Series event of the season, begins in Brentwood next month (September 15-21), carrying a first prize of £100,000.

The British Open in Cheltenham (Sepember 22-28), where Wilson will face Chris Wakelin in the first round on Monday, September 22, is also worth £100,000 to the winner.

With £50,000 on the line for any player making a 147 in Saudi Arabia, there is the live possibility of Wilson setting a new seasonal record for career earnings in the first three months of the new campaign.

He enjoyed his most lucrative season in the sport last time out, earning £981,300 with tournament wins at the Xi’an Grand Prix, Northern Ireland Open, German Masters and Players Championship. He also reached finals at the Masters and the Championship League.

However the season unfolds, winning in Saudi Arabia would set Wilson up for a landmark campaign, such is the weight of the first prize on offer at the tournament.

Trump will defend his title in Saudi Arabia holding a lead of £679,900 at the summit, but Wilson has the opportunity to put a significant dent in those numbers.

“This sets me up nicely for what is to come,” he told TNT Sports after claiming his second title in Shanghai.

“I’ve had to wait a long time to get going again in professional competition, but this was definitely worth the wait.”

The first day of the tournament on Friday will see six-time world finalist Jimmy White and 1997 world champion Ken Doherty meet for the first time in 15 years.
