Josh Uche is putting distance between Azeez Ojulari in position battle

Two Eagles pass rushers seem to be heading in different directions this summer as a unique position battle plays out

Every year, it’s the same thing, and it never gets old. Every Philadelphia Eagles training camp allows us to speculate and impersonate Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni.

They’re much better at their jobs than the rest of us would ever be. The cap would implode. Players would ask for trades. We’d probably pick the right guys, but struggle in negotiations.

The Eagles’ general manager has it all working. He drafts well. He extends guys sooner rather than later. It’s hard to make everyone happy, but Roseman comes close.

He has mastered the art of the one-year deal and finding bargains in free agency. Two guys falling under each umbrella are part of one of the more intriguing training camp battles of the summer.

Josh Uche has stepped ahead of Azeez Ojulari at Eagles camp

We knew it would be one of the most critical discussions. How do the Eagles replace so many losses at edge rusher?

All we knew was that Jalyx Hunt and Nolan Smith are scheduled to start. We also knew Roseman would have to find bodies to recoup the losses of a busy offseason.

The Bryce Huff experiment failed. Josh Sweat left for more money. Brandon Graham retired and rode off into the sunset.

The Eagles responded by adding Josh Uche and Azeez Ojulari. They reacquired Patrick Johnson, drafted Antwaun Powell-Roland Jr., and further stocked the cupboard with Ogbo Okoronkwo. The guys Philadelphia expected the most from were Uche and Ojulari. Both carry a little risk. One has stepped in front of the other.

Uche has moved ahead of Ojulari on the depth chart as the Eagles’ third edge rusher. The latter began his career with the hated New York Giants. He’s also another former Georgia Bulldogs star, but injuries have often held him back. One can only question if they have finally caught up with him.

These past three seasons alone, he has dealt with toe, hamstring, quad, calf, and ankle injuries. Look at the glass as being ‘half-full’ though. If Uche and Ojulari worked out, that would have been great, but the Eagles seemingly will be more than happy with seeing one or the other emerge as a valuable contributor.
