Rams’ offensive rookie named ‘most pivotal’ for 2025 season

The Los Angeles Rams didn’t make any splashy draft moves this past spring. Instead, they opted to fill roles that were missing on offense and defense.

We’ll see how those plans play out soon, but for now the Rams feel confident in their 2025 draft class after a few great classes in recent years that resulted in the likes of Kyren Williams, Puka Nacua, Kobie Turner and Jared Verse.

NFL.com’s Dan Parr broke down one pivotal rookie for all 32 teams and picked second-round tight end Terrance Ferguson for the Rams because of the depth he adds to the position room and what his availability unlocks for the offense.

With Tyler Higbee, Colby Parkinson and Davis Allen also on the roster, Sean McVay has the personnel to hit defenses with a good share of two-TE sets, something the coach seems excited about. Ferguson is not a strong blocker right now, but he has the ball skills and size (6-5, 247) to become a nuisance for defenses in the short-to-intermediate passing game, as long as his groin injury doesn’t linger. That’s the type of player Matthew Stafford was missing for much of last season, when the Rams ranked dead last in receiving yards by tight ends.

Whether or not McVay uses more two tight-end sets remains to be seen, but he has the option now with that quartet of players. The 2025 season proved that Higbee was the only truly reliable tight end of the group. Still, another offseason for Parkinson and Allen could bring them up to speed a little better and set their expectations properly now that Higbee is fully recovered from the injury that sidelined him for most of the 2024 season.

Ferguson was a relatively productive tight end during his final college season at Oregon. He caught 43 receptions for 591 yards and three touchdowns — not gaudy numbers, but he was involved enough to make an impact. He may not have an immediate impact, but his potential role in the offense could be important as the season progresses.
